Motivation, Dedication, or Desperation?

When it comes to making positive changes in your life, there really is only three ways that it gets done.  Those three ways are Motivation, Dedication, or Desperation.

It doesn’t matter what kind of life you lead.  It could be a good life where you cruise right through it without a care in the world, or it can be a tough life where you seem to have to fight for every scrap on the table.  If you choose to make a change, you must have one of those three things.

THE BASICS

First, let’s start with the basics.  However, everyone, including myself, seem to forget about this one.  At least from time to time.  The very basic rule of change is that you cannot repeatedly do the exact same thing and expect different results.  If you want change, you have to make change.  And we’re not talking dollars and cents here.  Although I guess we could be, since that sentence also works for money, but I digress….

To achieve what you never have, you must do what you have never done

That basic rule bites me all the time.  I’m getting better, but you would think that someone my age, with my intellect and my desire to be great would have that mantra tattooed on my forehead or something.  Instead, I seem to have to tell myself this almost daily and usually out loud.  I also have to tell my family.  Hopefully my kids pick up on it easier than I ever have.  With all of the times that I write about it, like I do HERE, you would think it would come quite naturally to me now.  You would think….

MOTIVATION PEOPLE

Going back to what I was saying in the beginning, these changes will only be accomplished due to your Motivation, or your Dedication, or because of your Desperation.  The Motivation people are the go-getters.  I mean, everybody has motivation for one thing or another, but when it comes to making meaningful changes to your life, it’s the go-getters than seem to excel and leave the others behind.

DEDCATION PEOPLE

The Dedication peeps are the ones that know that the changes need to be made but struggle with the actual application of the process.  These people are the ones that make lists, set dates, and place reminder sticky notes everywhere.  They are aware of the direction, but lack the motivation on their own.  They use notes and dates to direct themselves onto the correct path, mostly as reminders to stay the course.  These peeps are to easily distracted and use the notes to help with their focus toward the mission.  Squirrel!!!!

DESPERATION PEOPLE

The Desperation people.  These guys may be all knowing as well, but they lacked the motivation to make a change, and they may have even failed at the dedication to make the change.  Now, it’s almost too late and it’s do or die time.  Some of these peeps are wired this way all the time.  They are the procrastinators.  This procrastination may not be just because they are lazy, no no, this procrastination may be simply because CHANGE IS HARD, and when faced with difficulty, people tend to put it off as long as they can.

Everyone strives to be the Motivation type.  For the Desperation people, they would be happy to be Dedication people, and absolutely thrilled to be Motivation people.

Do you want to know the secret to becoming a Motivation Type?

ATTITUDE

Your attitude toward life and all things associated with it are what determines how hard you must work at it.  A positive attitude can take you a very long way.  Glass half full, from lemons to lemonade, that kind of thing.  Most importantly, the bottom line is that the easiest way to make a change is to believe in yourself.

I’ll save the juicy stuff about attitudes for another time.  I just want you to think about this in small bites.  Baby steps.  Do you have what it takes to be the Motivation type?  Are you a procrastinator and rely on Desperation to be your final motivation to making changes?  The best advice I can give is to wing it.  Just go out on a limb one of these times and JUST DO IT.  The path to financial freedom begins with the first step.

Take the chance.

Make the move.

I’ll see you at the finish line, wait for me.
